In the midst of increasingly complex global challenges, the food, agriculture and natural resources sector plays an important role in ensuring the sustainability of human life. Climate change, rapid population growth, environmental degradation and unequal access to resources are crucial issues that require serious attention. These sectors are not only concerned with the production of sufficient and quality food, but also with the sustainable management of natural resources. Therefore, collaborative efforts between stakeholders from various fields are needed to find innovative solutions that can overcome these challenges.
The organization of this international seminar aims to open a space for discussion and exchange of knowledge, as well as sharing experiences and best practices that can support the achievement of sustainable food systems and effective natural resource management. By involving experts, researchers, policy makers, and practitioners in related fields, this conference is expected to encourage more intensive collaboration and solutions to overcome these global problems.
The conference is particularly important given the enormous challenges faced by the world today, especially in relation to food security, climate change and the management of increasingly limited natural resources. According to data from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), about 1 in 9 people in the world still live in food insecurity, while the agricultural sector faces enormous pressure to increase production to meet the growing global food demand. In addition, the unsustainable utilization and management of natural resources is worsening environmental conditions, which risks threatening ecosystems and the sustainability of life on earth. The theme covers various critical aspects related to food security, agricultural production, and natural resource management. Issues to be discussed at the conference include innovations in environmentally friendly agricultural technologies, strategies for mitigating and adapting to climate change, sustainable food policies, and new ways to improve the efficiency of natural resource management, such as water, land, and biodiversity.
This international seminar will bring together various parties who are committed to the development of technologies, policies and strategies in the food, agriculture and natural resource management sectors. The conference aims to explore research and technology-based solutions that can increase agricultural productivity and improve global food security, without compromising environmental sustainability. In addition, the importance of integration between the agricultural sector and natural resources will be a major focus, with the hope of creating policies and practices that prioritize sustainability.
This international seminar has been held for 9 years, from 2015 to 2024. This international seminar is called The International Conference on Food, Agriculture, and Natural Resources (FANRes). Every year, the host of this seminar changes from all universities in Indonesia. In 2025, UNS hosted the 10th The International Conference on Food, Agriculture, and Natural Resources (FANRes). The theme of this year's international conference is “Resilient Food Systems: Innovations for Global Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security”.
As stated in the previous paragraph, the host of FANRes always changes every year (can be seen on the website https://fanres.org), and there is cooperation between the host universities. As in The 8th FANRes https://conference.fanres.org/ in Jember and The 9th FANRes https://fanres.events.unhas.ac.id/ in Makassar. Therefore, there is cross-disciplinary and cross-body cooperation to organize this activity.
Furthermore, as an Institute, FANRes also manages the International Journal on Food, Agriculture And Natural Resources or IJ-FANRes (https://journal.fanres.org/index.php/IJFANRES). IJ-FANRes is an international and interdisciplinary scientific and open access journal that addresses the science and technology of Food, Agriculture, and Natural Resources. Therefore, this international seminar has gained recognition from various national and international academic circles.
